Glossary

The vocabulary used in this guide and in the application.

Scene — a screenplay scene. In the French interface the same thing is called une séquence, because the word scène names something else in that trade — a naming rule that touches French alone.

Fountain — a plain-text screenplay format, the source of truth of a project. See Fountain, the source of truth.

.ocpt — a project's file. It holds everything: screenplay, breakdown, shot list, resources, schedule, budget.

.ocptz — a project exported as a portable package, to pass to someone.

Breakdown — the pass where you tag, in the screenplay, everything the shoot must provide (roles, sets, elements).

Shot list — the mode where you divide each scene into shots.

Coverage — the exact passages of the screenplay a shot films.

Poste — a budget heading of the French CNC nomenclature (for example Transport, allowances, on-set logistics).

CNC nomenclature — the standard chart of accounts a French commission expects; the budget creates its ten postes automatically.

Commitment — a spend ordered and owed, but not yet paid. It settles itself when the payments reach it.

Defrayal — a reimbursement of costs a person paid out of pocket (meals, travel…).

Slot — a working unit within a shooting day, with its own location, crew and hours.

Block — a segment of a slot's timetable (a shot, a rehearsal, a meal, hair-and-make-up, travel…).

Call time — the linking of a person to a slot, from which their arrival, PAT band and departure are read.

PAT — prêt à tourner: the period when a person is costumed, made up and ready to shoot.

HMC — French for hair, make-up and costume (habillage, maquillage, coiffure).

Call sheet — the daily document handed to the crew and cast, produced by the schedule.

Day Out of Days — the cast schedule across the whole shoot, one row per role.

Mise en scène — in the shot list, the directing notes attached to a shot.
